Andy Reid is NFL’s highest paid coach with incredible salary but No. 2 will shock you

Big Red’ makes big bucks.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is renowned for being a genius football mind who has won three Super Bowls in Kansas City’s hot-seat.

The Chiefs were one win away from an unprecedented Super Bowl three-peat, but fell to the Philadelphia Eagles in February.

It was the fifth trip to the big game of the Reid era.

Big Red has more than repaid the Chiefs, who rewarded him with a bumper five-year contract extension worth around $100 million in 2024.

The new deal made the 67-year-old the highest-paid coach in the NFL and across all North American sports leagues.

Reid tops the list of the ten highest-earning NFL coaches based on base pay without incentives heading into the 2025 season.

His $20 million salary puts him way ahead of Super Bowl 59 rival Nick Sirianni in terms of annual earnings.

Sirianni, who has reached two Super Bowls as a head coach, signed a five-year, $35 million contract with the Eagles back in 2021. Victory brought a new deal in May, worth around $10 million in 2025, per Field Yates.

‘Big Red’ is ahead of a rather surprising name in second spot on the list of highest-earning NFL head coaches.

The Denver Broncos handed Sean Payton the keys to the organization when they tempted him out of retirement in January 2023, with an $18 million salary this year in average annual value (AAV) probably helping to smooth the deal.

Payton is one of four Super Bowl-winning head coaches that make up the top five highest-earning head coaches, proving that victory in the big game often leads to big paydays.

Pittsburgh Steelers ever-present Mike Tomlin is tied for third on the list with $16 million-per-season.

He is joined by Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh, who might not have a Lombardi but signed a five-year deal with the Bolts after winning a NCAA national title with Michigan in 2024.

Los Angeles Rams offensive mastermind Sean McVay rounds out the top five with $15 million a year.

Who is the highest-earning NFL player of all time?

Money is rife in the National Football League.

The average NFL franchise was worth around $5.6 billion in 2024, and the $13 billion Dallas Cowboys lead the sports world.

Players are among the biggest beneficiaries of this exorbitant wealth.

Top 10 highest paid NFL coaches in 2024-25 season

1. Andy Reid (Kansas City Chiefs) – $20 million

2. Sean Payton (Denver Broncos) – $18 million

3. Mike Tomlin (Pittsburgh Steelers) – $16 million

3. Jim Harbaugh (Los Angeles Chargers) – $16 million

5. Sean McVay (Los Angeles Rams) – $15 million

6. Kyle Shanahan (San Francisco 49ers) – $14 million

7. John Harbaugh (Baltimore Ravens) – $12 million

8. Dan Campbell (Detroit Lions) – $ 11 million

8. Sean McDermott (Buffalo Bills) – $11 million

10. Nick Sirianni (Philadelphia Eagles) – $10 million

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott‘s mega contract makes him the NFL’s highest earning player this season (and ever).

Jerry Jones handed him a $240 million extension over four years – that works out an average salary of $60 million a year.

But the money tree ran out, and former teammate Micah Parsons was forced to move to the Green Bay Packers to secure a four-year deal worth $188 million and become the best-paid non-QB of all time.

Parsons is the fifth player to reset the market after Maxx Crosby, Myles Garrett, Ja’Marr Chase, and TJ Watt all penned new deals.

The constant arms race to secure the best talent shows no sign of slowing, and Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst admits that the salary cap is a real issue.

“There’s no doubt when you acquire a player like this, who’s going to take up that much of the cap, that you’re going to have to make some choices,” he said. “You always do.”

The NFL is constantly evolving as money pours in, but Reid has managed to keep ahead of the times.

Big Red has 28 postseason wins, only Bill Bellichick (31) has more and the record could tumble in the Chiefs continue their dominance.
