Angel Reese makes stunning admission with $7bn Michael Jordan target after beating Caitlin Clark to unique feat

Angel Reese is dreaming big when it comes to her new signature shoes.
Reebook announced the WNBA star’s first signature shoes called ‘The Angel Reese 1s’ which will drop on Sept. 18.
Reese, who hasn’t played since July 29 due to a back injury, is backing her star power to drive her signature shoes to worldwide popularity.
“Reebok is back! We’re bringing back that old-school look, the old-school vibes. People are going to be wearing Reebok everywhere, just like how they wear Jordans everywhere,” Reese said.
“I want people to wear the Angel Reese 1s everywhere and just to be a household name, to have no limits on what I can do and what I can accomplish.”
Reese’s signature shoes comes as Reebok drives the 23-year-old as the face of their basketball division.
The Sky forward is taking the mantle from Shaquille O’Neal, who once led Reebok Basketball before the company left the sport.
Targeting Jordan is an ambitious goal
Targeting the famous Jordan brand, which is named after six-time NBA champion Michael Jordan, is bold of Reese and it’s even bolder to announce it to the public.
The first Jordan shoes, Air Jordan 1, were released in 1985 and it didn’t take long for the shoes to become a cultural phenomenon.
From 1986 to 1994, at least one new pair of Air Jordans were released every year, with the editions going up to Air Jordan 11.
But 40 years on from that first release, no one could have anticipated the global success that the Jordan Brand would become.
The brand is worth $7 billion and most recently delivered $6.4 billion of revenue for Nike.
The shoe-giant sees 14 percent of its worldwide sales come from Jordan Brand alone.
While Reese may need a few decades to catch up with Jordan, she can take pride from the fact she is the first player from her rookie class to get a signature shoe.
This is a testament to the personal brand she has established, which has created a multi-million dollar portfolio of sponsors for her.
She’s even beaten fellow WNBA star Caitlin Clark to a signature shoe, despite the Indiana Fever star’s own enormous cultural power.
Clark will get a signature shoe from her sponsor Nike, the company confirmed, but there is no timeline on when that will happen.
The absence of a Clark signature shoe even drew criticism from three-time WNBA champion Diana Taurasi, who was adamant the 23-year-old deserves one.
“Caitlin, of course,” Taurasi said when asked who should get the next shoe.
“I mean, I know she has some (player exclusives), little colorways, but you can do that on Nike ID. I mean the next Caitlin shoe should be the next one, and you know my kids will be wearing it.”
Once a Clark shoe is released, there’s no doubt that comparisons of sales between her pair and Reese’s pair will occur, and create another competition among the rivals.
