Can Villa get their first win of the 2025/26 season?

Palace have so far coped well enough without Eberechi Eze, but certainly could have used his attacking help against Nottingham Forest.

Ismaila Sarr put them 1-0 up in the first half but couldn’t quite put the game to bed or fire themselves ahead after conceding an equaliser just before the hour mark.

Villa sit in 17th place currently after a draw and a loss so far in the league.

They’re yet to score this term after a 0-0 draw against Newcastle (which was seemingly fortunate after doing down to ten men) and then lost 1-0 to a much-changed Brentford side away from home.

Villa had plenty of chances and most of the ball too – 17 shots only two on target though and as much as 77% possession.

They’re sure to improve on that though and at Villa Park they’ll be spurred on to get their first goal of the season.

Ollie Watkins to open account

It’s rare Watkins has more than a couple of games without scoring but it’s been all of Villa’s problem in the first two games, with a huge lack of that decisive finish.

The English striker netted 14 in his first season with Villa, his first in the top-flight.

He didn’t see as many the following year with 11, but from then has continued to improve with 15, 19, and 16 goals scored.

The 2023/24 tally of 19 also saw him assist 13 so there’s certainly an expectation it’s more of a matter of time as to when Villa start getting back into the goals rather than if.
