Bachelor’s Vanessa Grimaldi Has Hysteroscopy After ‘Nonstop Bleeding'

The Bachelor alum Vanessa Grimaldi underwent a hysteroscopy after experiencing “two months of nonstop bleeding post-miscarriage.”

The season 21 winner — who broke off her engagement to lead Nick Viall shortly after the show aired — shared via Instagram on Tuesday, August 26, that she had surgery to “remove retained tissue” in her uterus.

“After two months of nonstop bleeding post-miscarriage, I had to get a hysteroscopy to remove retained tissue. And what was the only thing that distracted me from the weight of it all? Talking about @thesummeriturnedpretty with the doctors and nurses and somehow starting a poll to see who was Team Conrad vs. Team Jeremiah. 😂 (Spoiler: nobody had watched the show yet lmao),” Grimaldi, 37, wrote alongside a video of herself eating Jell-O in her hospital bed.

According to Mayo Clinic, during a hysteroscopy, doctors use a thin, lighted instrument to view the inside of the uterus.

Grimaldi suffered two miscarriages in less than a year, she revealed via Instagram in June. She shares son Winston, nearly 3, with her husband, businessman Joshua Wolfe.

“The last time I was strapped down for an operation was during my C-section with Winston and I had a full-blown panic attack on the table,” she continued in her Tuesday post. “So this time, right before they sedated me, I found myself quietly fighting back tears. I kept thinking…this is the last physical connection I’ll have to this pregnancy.”

She added: “Cut to the morning after: I still feel a strange mix of emptiness and hope. But physically, I’m feeling great. No cramping, light spotting, and a huge sense of relief that it’s finally done.Surgery went super well. My doctor, Dr. Madar, and the entire team at The Jewish General Hospital @ciussscentreouest were INCREDIBLE!!!! Truly can’t thank them enough!”

Grimaldi, who has been open about her desire to expand her family, concluded her post by reassuring other women experiencing the same thing that “the surgery is manageable, and the physical recovery is surprisingly easy. It’s the emotional healing that takes time. And that’s okay. Sending you SO much love❤️‍🩹.”

She added in the comments section, “Miscarriages can be a long journey, I am here for you ❤️‍🩹.”

Grimaldi experienced her first miscarriage last September. She noted via Instagram at the time that people asking her questions like, “Are you going to have more kids?” were triggering.

“For me, I needed time to heal emotionally and physically before I shared the news on here,” she wrote. “I feel good about sharing my story with you, but the tears still happen and the sadness still comes every now and then. And that’s okay. 🤍.”

In June, she also opened up about how grief after miscarriage “is often invisible, but it runs deep.”

She said, “The ups and downs aren’t signs of weakness, they’re part of healing. So please, give yourself permission to feel everything: the sorrow, the joy, and all the complicated pieces in between without guilt, without needing to explain. You are carrying more than most can see. Be gentle with yourself. ❤️‍🩹.”
