Manchester City make the trip down to the south coast to take on Brighton as strong favourites for victory as they bid to get back to winning ways after suffering a surprise defeat to Tottenham in the Premier League last weekend.

Pep Guardiola’s side had hit the ground running in the first week of the new season, putting in a stellar performance to win 4-0 away at Wolves which left them top of the table, but last week’s defeat in their opening home game has left some questions to be answered.

The winner of the seven of the last nine Premier League titles currently sit sixth in the table and will be determined to get back to winning ways and pick up another victory on the road ahead of their derby against Manchester United after next week’s international break.

Brighton have only picked up one point from their opening two Premier League matches so far but will have their tails up heading to this weekend after obliterating Championship side Oxford in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, winning 6-0.

Fabian Hurzeler’s side kicked off their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Fulham at home in which they conceded a 96th minute equaliser which preceded a 2-0 defeat against Everton in the first competitive match at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Seagulls currently occupy the relegation zone and will be desperate not to head into next week’s international break in the bottom three but a fixture against Manchester City isn’t an ideal scenario to be in to oust themselves from it.

Brighton returned with four points from their two games against Man City last season which includes a win in this fixture, but don’t seem to have quite settled so far this season and will a big ask for them defeat the 2023 treble winners on Sunday.
