Dana White inspires new-look broadcast team for Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford on Netflix

Netflix have confirmed a UFC-backed broadcast team for Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford.

And there’s no doubt the star-studded lineup has been inspired by UFC President and CEO Dana White.

White, alongside Turki Alalshikh, is promoting the blockbuster showdown under the new Saudi-backed organisation, Zuffa Boxing.

It will be the first time the 56-year-old UFC boss officially promotes a boxing bout, having first entered the sport as a co-promoter for Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor in 2017.

Canelo defends his undisputed super middleweight belts against Crawford on September 13 at the 65,000-capacity Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Crawford is moving up two weight classes in his attempt to overcome the Mexican great for the ‘fight of the century,’ which many believe could be the most-watched boxing fight of all time.

On Wednesday, the full preliminary card for Canelo vs Crawford, including a middleweight bout between Serhii Bohachuk and Brandon Adams, was revealed.

Now, Netflix have confirmed the entire broadcast lineup to call the historic card, and White isn’t the only UFC representative making the switch to the squared circle.

Who is in the broadcast team for Canelo vs Crawford?

Veteran UFC broadcaster Jon Anik will be the main commentator at Allegiant Stadium, which is the home of the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders, alongside fight analyst Max Kellerman.

Former two-weight world champion and International Boxing Hall of Famer Andre Ward will join Anik and Kellerman from the commentary booth.

UFC reporter Heidi Androl will conduct interviews on the night, with seasoned boxing reporter Jim Gray also offering in-depth coverage.

TV personality Mario Lopez, former multiple light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver, boxing writer Mark Kriegel, and Ring Magazine’s Mike Coppinger all make up the desk team.

Canelo vs Crawford is expected to be one of the greatest spectacles in boxing history, and White couldn’t be more excited.

“It’s been a crazy ride,” he told Helen Yee Sports, speaking on his involvement in promoting the fight.

“When I think about my first boxing match that I’m ever going to promote, it’s this fight with two of the greatest of all time.

“I’m looking forward to it. There’s already been some challenges, and we’re all figuring out how to work with each other.

“We’ll have this thing dialled in by the time they walk in September. It has been fun.”

White highlighted the sheer number of personalities involved when speaking on the differences between promoting the UFC and boxing, and hinted there is still a lot more to come.

“There are a lot of cooks in the kitchen [compared to] the UFC,” he added.

“The UFC is a dictatorship, and when you get into boxing, there’s a lot of different guys…

“I have big plans over the next five years, and we haven’t really announced what I’m doing yet in boxing.

“I’m promoting this fight with [Alalshikh], and then after this fight is over, I’ll let everybody know what I’m doing.”

The 12-round super-middleweight title fight between Canelo and Crawford will be streamed live on Netflix, with no additional cost to subscribers.
