Manchester United make the trip to Lincolnshire on Wednesday night looking for their first win of the season against League Two opposition in the Carabao Cup.

This season will be the Red Devils’ first time playing at this early stage of the competition since 2014 when Louis van Gaal’s side were infamously beaten 4-0 by MK Dons.

In contrast, Grimsby are in good form ahead of their big night in front of the Sky cameras hosting one of the biggest clubs in world football.

The Mariners heead into their midweek tie just a point off the top of the League Two table and are unbeaten across all six of the matches they’ve played in all competitions this season, winning four of those.

Managed by former Gibraltar international David Artell, the Lincolnshire side have won three of their last four matches in all competitions and are the fourth tier’s joint-top scorers in the league this season with 10 goals scored in their four games thus far.

The League Two side have only reached the third round of the Carabao Cup once in the last 20 years.

Grimsby are unbeaten against Manchester United in their last three meetings, though Wednesday’s match will be the first between the two sides since the Mariners were last in the top flight way back in 1948.
