‘Has to be sped up’ – Andy Ruiz Jr shows off blistering hand speed in first training footage since surgery

Andy Ruiz Jr looks to be firing on all cylinders as he gets set to return to the ring.

The former unified heavyweight champion hasn’t fought since last August, when he was held to a controversial majority draw by Jarrell Miller on the Terence Crawford vs Israil Madrimov undercard.

Ruiz Jr has started to fight camp for his return to the ring

Ruiz Jr suffered a fractured hand early in the contest, which required surgery to fix.

After a lengthy rehabilitation, the Mexican-American puncher is now in a position to make a comeback and is leaving no stone unturned in preparation.

Last month, Ruiz Jr uploaded a shirtless snap of himself looking very trim.

And he has now released a video of him hammering the pads with speed, precision and power.

Some fans were so blown away by his blistering hands that they speculated whether the video had been ‘sped up’.

One supporter wrote: “Ruiz has the fastest hands at heavy.”

Another tweeted: “He has lightweight hand speed, and that’s why he’s special.”

A third commented: “Andy is actually pretty damn fast.”

Meanwhile, somebody else posted: “This has to be sped up.”

Ruiz Jr’s latest training footage is his first since the Miller fight and comes weeks after he revealed to fans that he was gearing up for a return.

Taking to Instagram, Ruiz Jr posted a picture of some food prep, with the caption: “Gotta start now and only eat protein for 3 weeks.

“Getting ready before fight camp.”

It remains unclear who Ruiz Jr is set to face next, although it appears fight camp is now in full swing.

At 35 years old, ‘The Destroyer’ will have to get a move on if he hopes to claw his way back to the heavyweight top table.

His career has stagnated significantly since he shocked the world in June 2019 by knocking out Anthony Joshua for the WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight titles.

Ruiz Jr lost the rematch six months later and has only fought three times in the space of six years: a pair of wins over Chris Arreola and Luis Ortiz, as well as the aforementioned draw with Miller.

Many view Ruiz Jr as a wasted talent; only he can change that narrative.
