Kobbie Mainoo would consider Manchester United transfer before deadline day

Kobbie Mainoo would consider leaving Manchester United in the final week of the transfer window if the club receive a suitable offer, talkSPORT understands.

Mainoo has been an unused substitute for both of the Red Devils’ first two Premier League games of the season.

The England international has also failed to agree a new contract with Man United and his current deal expires in 2027.

Mainoo has made 72 appearances for the club since he made his debut at 17 years old in a Carabao Cup quarter-final with Charlton in 2023.

It sparked a whirlwind arrival on the scene for the English talent who then became a mainstay in the side under Erik ten Hag in the 2023/24 season.

That led to a Three Lions call-up where he starred in all but one of their games on the way to finishing Euro 2024 as runners-up to Spain.

Such was his rise he was also nominated for the 2024 Golden Boy award but was beaten by Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal.

However, Mainoo then had an injury-hit 2024/25 but still made 25 appearances.

His playing time, though, became sporadic as his future looked more uncertain at Old Trafford.

In March, talkSPORT reported that Mainoo wanted to remain at Manchester United but was seeking an increased salary.

It was believed he wanted in the region of £150,000-a-week to recognise his value to the Red Devils.

However, it was also noted that the club were willing but reluctant to sell homegrown players to help them with PSR concerns going forward.

That is because academy graduates count as 100 per cent profit when they are sold.

Previously Chelsea have been credited with interest in Mainoo, while the player himself was reportedly intrigued about a move abroad, according to The Guardian.

Asked after Mainoo did not come off the bench in United’s draw with Fulham, Ruben Amorim explained the situation.

He told reporters: “He’s fighting for the position now with Bruno and I change two midfielders.

“I let Mason Mount [play] there because we want to score a goal and when I changed I felt the team need to return to one holding midfielder near Bruno.

“So he (Mainoo) just needs to fight for the position with Bruno, as [it] should be at Manchester United. [Sometimes] he’s going to play with Bruno, but at the moment he’s fighting in training with Bruno for the position.”
