‘Lose some teammates’ – Angel Reese fires Chicago Sky warning after getting physical following latest WNBA officials fury

Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky have officially been eliminated from WNBA playoff contention.
This comes after they fell to a 94-84 defeat against the Connecticut Sun on Saturday.
Despite Reese making history after she recorded her 45th career double-double (11 points, 11 rebounds) matching Tina Charles (2010-11) for the most ever across a player’s first two seasons in the league.
And she has done so in eight fewer games than Charles, however it was once against not enough for the Sky to tack on a W in the win column.
Sky fall to 9-27 on the season, with just eight games remaining of what has been a disastrous 2025 campaign.
Sky head coach lost all composure
However, Reese’s 19th double-double of the season, tied with three-time WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson and Alyssa Thomas for the league lead, was overshadowed by Sky head coach Tyler Marsh‘s ejection just two minutes into the second quarter.
A heated exchange ensued after Marsh was adamant that the officials missed a foul on Elizabeth Williams by the Sun’s Aaliyah Edwards after clear physical contact on the Sky forward.
Following the no-call, Marsh lost all composure and stormed onto the court to confront the referee on the nearest baseline, forcing Reese and some other members of the Sky to intervene and restrain their head coach.
This left assistant coach Tanisha Wright taking over the reins of what had been a particularly physical contest throughout.
Following the game, the first-year head coach was outspoken about his ejection, suggest that there is no accountability from the officiating crews on a nightly basis.
“I feel like we’ve been getting the short end of the stick all year,” Marsh said. “Every time that I have gotten a tech this year has been in support of our players…
“There’s no accountability on the other side of it [refereeing] and that’s the breaking point.”
The quality of refereeing throughout the course of the WNBA season has been a contentious debate, and NBC Sports personality Natalie Esquire also gave her two cents on Marsh’s – perhaps understandable – crash out on Saturday.
“Tyler Marsh, like many, are fed up with the refs,” Esquire posted to X (formerly Twitter). “I understand the reaction. I hope a bigger deal isn’t make of it than needs to be. Happens all the time in sports.”
Reese speaks out on the future
With the Sky now officially eliminated from the post-season, two-time All-Star Reese hasn’t held back on what the future holds for her team.
“I’m sure that all of us aren’t going to be on this team next year together,” Reese said.
“So, I know we’ll lose some teammates, have some trades happen, it’s part of the game. So just enjoy each other, because I really did enjoy this team this year, and these players, and these vets…
“The game can be taken away from you at any time, so just maximize it.”
There was previously optimism around Chicago ahead of the 2025 WNBA season kicking off with the team having added veteran experience to the roster by adding two-time WNBA champion Courtney Vandersloot to the mix.
The Sky also swung a trade for two-time All-Star and All-Defensive first-team selection Ariel Atkins, parting ways with the third overall pick in the 2025 draft in order to acquire her.
That pick, became Sonia Citron, the Washington Mystics rookie who has been hugely impressive and given some element of competition to Rookie of the Year favorite Paige Bueckers for the coveted individual award.
Only Reese, her frontcourt partner Kamilla Cardoso, and rookies Hailey Van Lith and Maddy Westbeld are contracted to the Sky beyond 2025.
Therefore, there may yet be a significant roster overhaul in store for the struggling franchise as the wait goes on for Reese to reach the WNBA playoffs for the very first time in her career.
