NFL to overturn Tom Brady ‘rules’ as Fox’s $375m star could see huge pay bump despite missing 2026 Super Bowl

Tom Brady has bested the NFL once again.
The legendary quarterback, who dominated the league and won seven Super Bowls during his 23-year playing career, has secured yet another victory.
And it’s one that’s come in the commentary booth.
Brady is currently working under a 10-year, $375 million deal with Fox Sports.
He serves as the network’s top color commentator, alongside play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt, and his first season culminated in calling Super Bowl LIX from New Orleans.
But it hasn’t all been smooth sailing.
In his rookie season as a broadcaster, Brady was banned from taking part in pregame production meetings with NFL coaches and teams.
The rules were put in place due to his minority ownership stake in the Las Vegas Raiders franchise, and stopped him from attending those information-gathering sessions.
Instead, Burkhardt and other crew members would inform Brady of what was said in the meetings, and those nuggets of information could then be relayed to viewers during the broadcast.
Brady’s role as both a high-profile broadcaster and minority NFL owner caused quite the conflict of interest, but it seems the league will make his life easier in 2025.
NFL to relax Brady rules for upcoming season
According to The Athletic, Brady will indeed be allowed to attend production meetings with coaches and teams moving forward.
The decision comes after the NFL allowed him to attend the sessions ahead of Super Bowl LIX, suspending the ‘Brady Rules’ for the big game.
The Athletic reports that, despite being able to sit in on meetings, Brady will still be barred from team practices.
Still, the relaxing of some rules will no doubt be welcomed by Fox, given the amount of money they are paying Brady.
How much is Brady’s Fox contract worth?
While his contract is widely reported to be worth $375m over 10 years, the legendary QB could be set to rake in even more than that.
The Athletic reported a number of months ago that Brady’s deal has ‘stock options’ and could end up being north of the $375m figure.
Will Brady call the Super Bowl in 2026?
Brady, of course, will be paid all of that money despite the fact he won’t be calling the Super Bowl at the conclusion of this season.
In fact, he won’t be on the call for the next three years.
The game is covered on a four-year broadcasting rotation, with the three other major TV networks.
Fox and Brady will not cover the Super Bowl again until 2029 — that’s after NBC, ESPN and CBS have their chance to televise it.
Still, for those tuning in to hear Brady in the booth, he will be on the call for plenty of other games.
His first assignment is a Week 1 match up between the Washington Commanders and New York Giants at Northwest Stadium.
