Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift engagement announcement almost breaks internet as Instagram post gets millions of likes instantly

Power couple Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift have announced their engagement.
NFL star Kelce and pop star sensation Swift began dating two years ago and revealed to fans on Tuesday that they are tying the knot.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” they said on a joint Instagram post which amassed over two million likes inside the first ten minutes after being posted. The caption also included an emoji of a dynamite stick.
The proposal took place in a picturesque location full of hues of pink flower arrangements, straight out of a fairytale, with the pair both looking hugely emotional as Kelce dropped down to one knee.
The ring is also a thing of beauty, with one large diamond covered with a gold band, giving it a vintage chic kind of look.
How did Kelce and Swift meet?
In her recent appearance on the New Heights podcast hosted by Travis and his brother Jason, formerly the starting center of the Philadelphia Eagles, Swift and the Kelce brothers recalled how their relationship came to be.
Kelce called out Swift on the podcast two years ago, saying that he wanted to meet her when she performed one of her Eras Tour dates at Arrowhead Stadium – the home of the Chiefs.
Thinking he could sweet-talk the workers at the stadium to get backstage to meet her, Kelce was denied and so pled his case on the podcast.
However, his public plea was seen by thousands of people – including some of Swift’s entourage – and the rest is history as they say.
On Swift’s first – and perhaps only – podcast appearance, the 35-year-old was full of gratitude for the New Heights show and it bringing her the love of her life.
“This podcast has done a lot for me,” she said. “This podcast got me a boyfriend, since Travis decided to use it as his personal dating app about two years ago.”
On Kelce’s gesture to profess his love to the pop star, whom at that point he had not even met, Swift thought it was a ‘romantic gesture.’
“It was such a wild romantic gesture to just be like, ‘I WANT TO DATE YOU’,” Swift joked. “This dude didn’t get a meet and greet, and he’s making it everyone’s problem. That’s what I thought at first.
“You realise he didn’t even reach out to our management. When this podcast came out, I was like, ‘Did he ever reach out to be in the [VIP] tents, or did we know he was in the building?’
“He came with Pat [Mahomes], and he thought that because he knows the elevator lady, he could talk to her about just getting down into my dressing room.”
Swift – who is known to be quite the romantic based on her music over the last decade – felt like throughout the whole ordeal, that she was the main character in a movie. She even admitted that Chiefs head coach Andy Reid helped play matchmaker to help kickstart their budding relationship.
She said: “This felt like I was in an ’80s, John Hughes movie, and he was just standing outside my window with a boombox, being like, ‘I want to date you!’”
“This is sort of what I’ve been writing songs about what I’ve wanted to happen to me since I was a teenager,” to which Kelce interjected: “And I was sitting there at the Eras Tour listening to every single one of those songs, like, ‘I know what she wants me to do’.”
What are the fans saying?
With so many ‘Swifties’ and football fans flooding to social media to comment about the pair’s engagement announcement, it is somewhat of a surprise that they haven’t entirely crashed the social media-verse.
While the two turned off the comments on their Instagram post, this hasn’t stopped the two being the most trending topic on X (formerly Twitter), with many media outlets taking the time to congratulate one of America’s biggest power couples.
“Kelce’s best catch yet,” the official Bayern Munich US account posted.
“I just KNEW they were going to be endgame,” another user wrote.
“She got her human exclamation point for life ,” Stubhub wrote.
A fourth user wrote: “Can we have the wedding during the halftime show this year?”
Super fan Iga Swiatek, the world no.2 female tennis player, was equally happy.
“I’m just happy for her, because she deserves the best,” she said after winning her US Open first round win and then being asked about the celebrity news in her press conference afterwards.
“Obviously she had a lot of boyfriends, so we know all about that. So hopefully this one will, you know, stick forever. Travis seems like a great guy.”
Asked if she would respond to a ‘non-Taylor question,’ the six-time grand slam winner joked, with a deadpan reaction: “No.”
How much is the ring?
Speculation began on where it was from and how much it cost as soon as the announcement was made given the power couple’s combined net worth.
Kelce, who signed a two-year contract in 2024 worth $34m with $17m guaranteed for the first season, while Swift is worth a reported £1.6 billion.
The ring is an Old Mine Brilliant Cut from Kindred Lubeck at Artifex Fine Jewelry.
Professionals from the jewellery industry have been sought for their opinion and estimates range from a modest $250k to $550k, while George Khalife, aka George the Jeweler on Instagram told the Mail it is more in the millions.
“The whole look feels really antique, which I think suits Taylor perfectly. It looks close to 20 carats or more and would be valued between 3.5 to 5 million dollars. Because it’s set in yellow gold, it’s a little harder to tell the exact color, but I’d guess it’s at least F or G color with VVS clarity.”
Will Taylor Swift headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2026?
Swift has made no secret that she is a huge fan of releasing Easter eggs, having made a plethora throughout her Eras Tour that pointed toward her 12th album ‘The Life of a Showgirl’, which was announced on New Heights.
Now, there are a multitude of conspiracy theories circulating over whether one of the biggest global music artists will take center stage at Super Bowl LX.
Though the 14-time Grammy winner finds her name floated in conversations to headline the Super Bowl almost every year, this time feels just a little bit different.
Firstly, the topic of the Super Bowl came up several times throughout the two-hour long episode on New Heights. She even made reference to the half-time show itself.
“My relationship with sports was like, I grew up in Pennsylvania, I always heard my dad yelling at the screen watching Eagles games,” Swift recalled.
“I was up in my room playing guitar, learning instruments, playing piano — I was focused on different things. I would go to sporting events so that I could sing the national anthem. I know every halftime show from the Super Bowls, but I didn’t watch the sports.”
There’s also the fact that she spoke in incredible detail about sourdough bread – her self-proclaimed baking obsession.
Although that may not feel in the slightest of significance, Super Bowl LX is set to be hosted at Levi’s Stadium – the home of the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers mascot’s name? Only Sourdough Sam.
Not only that, but she was very deliberate in mentioning that she talks about bread “60 per cent of the time now”, with Super Bowl LX set to be the 60th iteration.
Fans can obviously only speculate at the moment, but there are a myriad of other clues that fans feel Swift gave away which all pointed to being named the headline act in 2026.
Should this transpire in the way fans are adamant it will, then what a Hollywood ending it could be for Kelce’s stellar NFL career if his Chiefs were to make their sixth Super Bowl appearance in seven seasons, and his fiancee be the one performing the halftime show.
This is especially poignant considering the idea that the curtain is expected to come down on the seven-time All-Pro’s career as early as the end of the 2025 season.
Swift always said she wanted a love story. Now she’s found her Romeo and she just said yes.
