Where to watch Rangers v Celtic: Kick-off time, team news and live coverage for Old Firm Derby

Rangers host Celtic in an Old Firm derby where defeat for either side would continue a week of sheer humiliation.

Both of the Glasgow giants crashed out of Champions League qualification at the final hurdle, with Celtic beaten by unknown Kazak side FC Kairat and Rangers hammered 9-1 by Club Brugge.

For Celtic, things are at least better domestically, with three wins from three in the Scottish Premiership before one of world football’s biggest derbies.

The same can’t be said for Rangers, though. Russell Martin’s side are winless in three to start the campaign, and after matching their worst-ever European result, the former Southampton boss is on the brink.

They’re at least at home – hosting the first meeting between the two at Ibrox where Celtic haven’t won since September 2023.

The fixture has more recently been a home affair, with both clashes last season ending 3-0 to the hosts.

Rangers v Celtic: Where to watch

The Scottish Premiership match will take place at Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow on Sunday, August 31.

The match kicks off at 12pm UK time and Sky Sports have the rights to the fixture.

It will be available across their channels Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Sports Football and Sky Sports Ultra HDR.

Alternatively, a NOW TV membership can be purchased, with day or month passes also available for short term deals.

Rangers v Celtic: Russell on the brink?

Despite both teams still reeling from their midweek Champions League exits, a home defeat for Rangers could be far less palatable than the reverse.

Without a win in the Premiership, Rangers have only tasted victory in earlier qualifying rounds and also the League Cup for an overall record of three wins, four draws and three defeats with 15 goals scored and 16 conceded.

Manager Russell Martin joined in the summer on a three-year deal but is already facing the sack.

Sacked last December by Southampton who were bottom of the Premier League, he was eyed by the relegated Leicester.

However, the 39-year-old fought off competition from Davide Ancelotti and Steven Gerrard to secure the Ibrox hotseat.

Celtic, meanwhile, have three wins from three in the league, but a Champions League exit will have damaged Brendan Rodgers’ standing.

Rangers v Celtic: What has been said?

Gers fans have already had enough of Martin with the Rangers Supporters Association asking for his removal.

“It is our considered view that the current Head Coach should be relieved of his duties with immediate effect,” they said in a statement after the Brugge humiliation.

Both teams see this match as a must-win

“The Rangers Supporters Association will always stand behind the team, but we also have a duty to speak up.”

Looking ahead to the Old Firm, Russell said: “We have an amazing opportunity on Sunday, in a huge game that means so much to everyone.

“I don’t think we could ask for a better game to move forward and to build some connection because after (Wednesday night) it’s damaging. So we have to win on Sunday.

“Now all focus has to be on making sure that we do the basics right and as well as we possibly can. And with a level of intensity and aggression and desire that is required in an Old Firm game.

“There’s nothing I can say now that will make people feel any better. We have to make sure we go and prove that we really want to create something here and be a proper team.”

Echoing the must-win sentiment, former Celtic and Scotland defender Charlie Mulgrew told talkSPORT: “They need to [win] that’s the nature of Celtic, you need to turn up, you need to be ready to go against Rangers.

“The fans will be asking for that and demanding it, so as a club you need to get over the disappointment quickly and be ready to go because no one will be feeling sorry for you.”
