David Benavidez replaces former world champion as new pound-for-pound rankings released

David Benavidez continues on an upward career trajectory.
Benavidez has achieved a perfect 30-0 record across his professional career so far.
Just four years after turning pro, he claimed the vacant WBC super middleweight title in his first bout against Ronald Gavril.
Then in 2024, the Mexican became a two-weight belt holder after defeating Oleksandr Gvozdyk to secure the interim WBC light-heavyweight world title.
Despite being knocked down by David Morrell in their bout, he went on to take victory and was subsequently upgraded to a full WBC light heavyweight champion.
Just two months later, in April this year, he then acquired the full WBC world title as Dmitry Bivol vacated his throne.
As the 28-year-old continues an impressive win streak, he has re-entered Ring Magazine pound-for-pound ranks.
With Shakur Stevenson also moving up one place to settle in No.9, Benavidez has replaced Kenshiro Teraji as No.10.
Teraji lost his unified WBC and WBC flyweight titles in a shock defeat to Ricardo Rafael Sandoval in July.
The Japanese flyweight’s second loss of his career means his record now stands at 25-2, although he remains the No.2 flyweight on the Ring’s rankings.
Benavidez is currently gearing up to defend his new title against Anthony Yarde in November.
The bout will mark Yarde’s third world title shot, following failed attempts against Sergey Kovalev and Artur Beterbiev.

The event that Benavidez and Yarde are headlining, promoted by Ring Magazine, will also feature four other world title fights.
Devin Haney is up against Brian Norman Jr in the co-main event, for the latter’s WBO welterweight title.
Jesse Rodriguez and Fernando Daniel Martinez are going head-to-head to unify the former’s WBC and the latter’s WBA junior bantamweight titles.
