Ed Kelce Says Travis Kelce Moved Up 'Special' Taylor Swift Proposal

Travis Kelce’s dad, Ed Kelce, is giving sports fans and Swifties alike an inside look into his son’s long-awaited proposal to Taylor Swift.

“Travis actually did the proposal, oh, maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago,” Ed told local outlet and ABC affiliate News 5 Cleveland on Tuesday, August 26, just hours after the happy couple announced their engagement. “He was going to put it off till this week … but he was going to put her off till this week to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big, special event.”

Ed continued, “And I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event … when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you.”

Swift and Travis, both 35, announced their engagement on Tuesday via a joint Instagram post. “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” the pair wrote in the caption, alongside photos of the special moment, which Ed revealed took place at a garden in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

“He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, ‘Let’s go out and have a glass of wine,’ … they got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful,” Ed told the outlet. “They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. So, to see them together is great.”

Ed also shared that he was attending a practice for the Philadelphia Eagles, his son’s former NFL team, when the newly engaged Swift and his son called him to break the news.

“I was at … an Eagles practice, a public practice that they had a lot of people that, well, the Eagles had 60,000 people at a public practice two weeks ago on Sunday night,” Ed explained. “So at that practice … I got a FaceTime call from them, and as soon as I saw the FaceTime, I saw it was Travis, and then I saw Taylor there with him, I knew what they were going to say, and they, you know, let us know.”

According to the insider, Travis is “very observant and in tune with” Swift’s style, and used that knowledge to help him pick out the perfect engagement ring.

“That drove his decision,” the source continued. “He considered everything about what she’d like and want, and he paid attention to the jewelry she wears often for inspiration.”
