Bet of the day – Stockport to beat Bolton @ 20/23

Bolton were humiliated in this fixture last season, with Stockport romping to a 5-0 victory in front of a delirious Edgeley Park faithful, so County will be expecting to claim maximum points again.

Dave Challinor has done a terrific job of getting the Hatters from the National League to League One promotion contenders and his team fell agonisingly short of reaching the Championship last term. A penalty shootout defeat to Leyton Orient in the play-off semi-finals was a heartbreaking end to an excellent campaign.

County’s management and players have had the summer to recover from that defeat, able to reflect on how well they did to finish third in the league. The Hatters can be expected to mount another strong promotion bid this term and a winning start against Bolton looks to be on the cards.

Bolton are in a state of flux, with Ian Evatt losing his job midway through last season. The Trotters ended up in mid-table obscurity and have lost last season’s top scorer Aaron Collins to MK Dons, while captain George Thomason has left for Wrexham.

With 10 summer signings to bed into the squad, relatively new gaffer Steven Schumacher has a tough task to get his team into an early rhythm this season.

An away trip to a much more settled unit seems a tough opening assignment.

Long shot of the day – Dundee to beat Hibernian 2-1 @ 11/1

Hibernian have been leaking goals during an unimpressive pre-season campaign and the favourites may flop when they head to Dens Park for their opening league match of the new season.

Hibs conceded six goals against Ajax at the start of this month, two against Rot-Weiss Essen, two against Bolton, then three across the two legs of their Europa League qualifying tie loss to FC Midtjylland.

The Hibs defence has been looking vulnerable and Dundee can sneak a 2-1 opening-day success.
