Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce ‘FaceTimed’ His Parents After Engagement

Ed Kelce revealed son Travis Kelce and his soon-to-be daughter-in-law Taylor Swift FaceTimed him and Donna Kelce after they got engaged.

“They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew,” Ed, 74, told local ABC affiliate News 5 Cleveland on Tuesday, August 26, just hours after Travis, 35, and Swift, also 35, announced their engagement. “So, to see them together is great.” (Ed and Donna, 72, revealed in 2024 that they had divorced after 25 years of marriage.)

Ed added that when he saw a FaceTime request pop up his phone screen, he knew what he was about to learn. “I was at … a [Philadelphia] Eagles practice [that] … had 60,000 people at a public practice two weeks ago on a Sunday night,” he explained. “As soon as I saw the FaceTime, I saw it was Travis, and then I saw Taylor there with him, I knew what they were going to say, and they, you know, let us know.”

The proud father told the outlet that he was informed of Travis’ proposal plans “months in advance,” and even expected the Chiefs tight end to get down on one knee during the 2024 NFL season.

Ed also revealed that he and Donna, who is yet to publicly address her son’s engagement, spent quality time with Travis and Swift after attending the Kansas City premiere of ESPN’s new docuseries The Kingdom on Sunday, August 24. (The six-part series charts the early days of Travis and Swift’s relationship.)

“His mother and I went with him back to his house for dinner, where Taylor made dinner, and we had a wonderful dinner with them outside on the patio and to just watch the two of them, just crazy about each other. It’s truly kinda neat,” Ed told the outlet.

While Ed revealed that the pair got engaged at a garden in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, the outlet noted that “no wedding planning” has happened yet.

“They’re just two young people very much in love, cast in a spotlight that they really haven’t sought but kind of followed with their success in their respective fields,” Ed added.

Swift and Travis announced their engagement via a joint Instagram post on Tuesday. A carousel of images captured the moment she said “yes,” while a caption read, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.” (The caption referenced Swift’s acclaimed songwriting as well as Travis’ athletic achievements in the NFL.)

Travis proposed in a rose-filled garden as a seemingly emotional Swift was presented with a diamond by Kindred Lubeck at Artifex Fine Jewelry.
