Vincent Rodriguez III Would 'Love' to Reboot 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend'

Vincent Rodriguez III is ready to return to the world of Rebecca Bunch.
The actor, 42, told Us Weekly exclusively that he would “love” to appear in a reboot of the hit CW show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Rodriguez starred as Josh Chan, Rebecca’s on-again, off-again boyfriend, in the original series, which ran for four seasons.
“I’ve tried to think of how [the reboot] would work,” Rodriguez said at the premiere of Ne Zha II in Los Angeles on Monday, August 4. “I remember how special the show was and what it was like to film the first episode 10 years ago. People continue to ask me, ‘Hey, were you having as much fun on the show as we think you were behind the camera?’ And I [say], ‘Absolutely! All the time.’ I still feel very connected to the character, to the story, to the themes that Rachel Bloom and Aline Brosh McKenna put together.”
Created, written and directed by Bloom and McKenna, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has developed a cult following in the years since its 2019 finale. Rodriguez noted how many fans have rediscovered the show on various streaming platforms, allowing him the opportunity to “relive the joy and impact” of the series.

“[The fans] interact with me on lives and comments and messages,” Rodriguez shared. “They walk up to me and I say, ‘hi.’ People still call me Josh Chan. I’m a huge fan of my own show, and I champion the show and all my castmates in it.”
Rodriguez compared the impact of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend to his new animated film Ne Zha II, which he stars in alongside Michelle Yeoh. Based on Chinese folklore, Ne Zha II follows Rodriguez’ Li Jing and Yeoh’s Lady Yin as they help their super-powered son fight evil forces.
“When you have a project like [Crazy Ex-Girlfriend] that really brings in so many amazing elements at the right time. It’s timeless,” Rodriguez said. “I think Ne Zha II is one of those projects. There’s a reason why [2019’s Ne Zha] broke box office records. This movie has action sequences that are phenomenal. You’ll see Ne Zha’s parents — me and Michelle Yeoh’s characters — fighting alongside him because we’re family. Tonight is a special moment for us.”

Rodriguez urged all movie-goers to check out the animated flick, which hits theaters in 3D and IMAX on August 22.
“When it’s released to the world, it’s yours. Ride the ride,” Rodriguez said. “Go to a movie theater [and] see this movie. If you need to wear a mask, you wear a mask. You need to bring a friend, you bring your family. This movie is one of those moments that needs to be celebrated.”
