Glorious Goodwood talkSPORT betting tips – Best racing bets and expert advice for day five at Goodwood

It’s the fifth and final day of Glorious Goodwood on Saturday and the Stewards’ Cup over 6f, one of the principal sprint handicaps of the season, is the obvious highlight of a strong seven-race card.

George Baker’s Get It, who sprang a 40/1 upset in last year’s race, bids for a repeat and comes here at the top of his game following his win in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot.

Our expert, Marcus Buckland, has a trio of selections on the card including one in the feature event, one in the opener, and the Group 2 Lillie Langtry Stakes.

Goodwood Day five betting tips

1.20 Goodwood – Candleford

Victory in the Listed Charlie Wood Stakes at Beverley last month was a perfect tonic for the William Haggas-trained Candleford and the confidence gained for that easy win might just give him the edge on his return to Group 3 company in the Glorious Stakes.

A stablemate of likely favourite, Al Asay, who bids to repeat last season’s win in the 1m4f contest, ran with far more credit than the bare result suggests in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, his first start since finishing fourth in the same race a year earlier.

He travelled strongly and put the well supported Karmology firmly in his place when getting back to winning ways at Beverley last time and, while more will be needed on Saturday, he’s got very little to find at these weights and went like the winner for a long way when third behind Hamish in this race in 2023.

2.30 Goodwood – Term Of Endearment

Haggas looks set to saddle a double on the card courtesy of Term Of Endearment, who can repeat last year’s win in the Group 2 Lillie Langtry Stakes.

The six-year-old was successful at odds of 15-2 for Henry De Bromhead 12 months earlier and, while she’s not won since, she’s performed very creditably for her new yard, including when touched off by Scenic in the Group 3 Bronte Cup at York in May.

She appeared not to stay 2m when fading to finish last of the four runners in the Listed Coral Marathon at Sandown last time, but she ran well enough to suggest she retains plenty of ability.

She’s favoured at the weights and is marginally preferred to Joseph O’Brien’s Goodie Two Shoes, who has won a pair of Listed races and a Group 3 this season.

3.05 Goodwood – Run Boy Run

The David Evans-trained Get It bids to become the seventh horse to win the Stewards’ Cup twice, the seven-year-old coming here at the peak of his powers following a pair of wins at Ascot this season, most recently in the Wokingham at the Royal Meeting in June.

He clearly demands plenty of respect, but he’s 6lb higher than when edging out the reopposing Apollo One at odds of 40/1 here 12 months ago and might just be vulnerable.

The majority of the 28 runners have claims of sorts, but I was drawn to the effort of Run Boy Run in the Buckingham Palace Stakes over 7f at Royal Ascot (he won his group) and he again ran with plenty of credit in the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket subsequently.

However, the best four runs of his career have come at 6f and a return to this trip, plus the addition of a first-time visor (replacing cheekpieces), puts him firmly in the mix.
